Textunnel is built with privacy as a foundational requirement. We do not store your files on any cloud storage, we do not inspect your clipboard contents, and we do not require account registration. All file transfers occur directly peer-to-peer (P2P) between your devices over encrypted WebRTC DataChannels.
Textunnel operates as a client-side peer-to-peer (P2P) utility. When transferring files, photos, videos, or text between devices on the same local network (Wi-Fi/LAN) or over the internet, payloads stream directly from device A to device B via WebRTC DataChannels.
All communications are encrypted end-to-end by default using standard DTLS 1.2/1.3 and AES-GCM cipher suites. Encryption keys are generated locally in the browser of the connecting peers. Neither Textunnel nor any intermediate party can inspect or decrypt the contents of your transfer.
We do not store, save, or cache your files, documents, or clipboard history on any central database or cloud disk. Once a browser tab is closed or a transfer session ends, all session contexts and ephemeral room IDs are destroyed immediately from volatile browser memory.
To establish the initial WebRTC peer connection (the handshake), a lightweight signaling server relays connection metadata (such as Session Description Protocol / SDP packets and ICE candidates). The signaling server never processes, inspects, or stores the actual file or clipboard payload.
